Construction Performance Solutions Air Testing.
Construction Performance Solutions was formed in 2003 to service the requirement for air Testing in accordance with the new Part L regulations.
This called for all buildings over 1000m2 GIFA to need air testing and so the industry of air Testing was born.
At the time one of the few suppliers of air testing equipment was Retrotec but James Mitchell (CPS Ltds MD) built his own air testing equipment to cover this air testing need.
In the period 2003 to 2006 air testing was a relatively small industry with a limited number of buildings undergoing air testing.
In 2006 there was a building regulation revision that changed the air testing world increasing the number of buildings needing air testing.
The rules changed so that buildings under over 500m2 need air testing so increasing the number of buildings needing air testing. Those buildings under 500m2 only avoid air testing if they passed their SBEM calculation with 15m3/h/m2 as an air leakage rate. Air Testing was also introduced for residential dwellings dividing the market into air testing residential dwellings and air testing non residential dwellings. Air testing was required for all buildings whose building regulation approval was after April 2006.
Since that regulation was introduced the amount of air testing taking place in the UK increased dramatically.
Construction Performance Solutions has been mainly air testing in England and have now carried out in excess of 1600 air testing projects.
W have had schools that need air testing, hospitals that need air testing, offices that need air testing, steel frame sheds that need air testing, air craft hangars that need air testing, colleges and universities that need air testing, houses that need air testing and flats that need air testing.
In order to prove our credentials in the air testing market we have undergone UKAS Accreditation for air testing. We have also sought accreditation from the air testing from ATTMA and achieved it. Finally we are air testing members of the BINDT.
The air testing market was vibrant in 2008 and 2009 but with a reduction of starts in 2009 the amount of buildings completing and needing air testing has reduced in 2010.
There has been a revision to the air testing part of Part L during 2010 which will come into force in October 2010.
The result is that more residential units will need air testing and for non residential air testing the rules are largely unchanged.
The future for the air testing companies is a tough one but with it low gearing one that CPS Ltd can cope with.
We will be air testing long into the future and hopefully will prosper from air testing.
